Children's Progress

How We Monitor Progress

Every day our teachers are working unobtrusively to help your child to learn and to develop. They record observations on each child’s activities and achievements in a learning journal and use this record to monitor progress and guide their next steps in the Montessori way.

We have a superb, web-based system called ‘My Montessori Child’ which allows our teachers to spend more time with the children and makes it easier to share their progress and achievements with you, the parent.

Parent Involvement

We actively encourage parents to be involved with their child’s development and learning progress:

  • Exchange of information begins with our registration and induction process.
  • Parents are invited to join in special events such as parties, picnics, coffee mornings, external visits and visiting speakers.
  • We provide updates throughout the settling in process and encourage parents to book a 'tea and a chat' to discuss updates after the child is fully settled.
  • Parents are encouraged to read, comment on and contribute to their child’s learning journal online.
  • Each child has a nominated teacher as their ‘key person’ and parents are invited to in-depth discussions on progress at least once per year.
  • Parents can also create a ‘My Child at Home’ account, allowing them to upload their observations from home.

My Montessori Child

Introduction

Our web-based system ‘My Montessori Child’ does much more than just allow teachers to record observations. It has been described as ‘The world’s most advanced early-education system, specially designed for the world’s most popular early-education method’. It was co-founded by David Gettman, author of the best-selling Montessori reference book ‘Basic Montessori‘ and the system comes highly recommended by our accrediting body, the Montessori Schools Association.

Key Features

  • The system can be accessed simultaneously by our teachers, managers and parents, without the use of any specialist software – but only by those authorised by us to do so.
  • Teachers can easily record their day-to-day observations, add photos and monitor learning stages using iPads or similar devices.
  • My Montessori Child then operates as an ‘expert system’, intelligently turning the observations into learning insights, next-step ideas and draft teaching plans for each child. These are presented for review and modification by our teachers and head teachers, so human experience and intelligence is assisted but never by-passed.
  • Statutory reports and reports for parents can be produced at the touch of a button.
  • Parents can view their child’s progress in detail at any time and can collaborate with us online on their child’s development.
  • The system also offers parents ideas for things to do at home with their child and enables them to access expert advice on Montessori and Early Years education.
  • A great deal of attention has been paid to data security and our providers describe the entire system as being ‘as secure as online banking‘. All access is tightly controlled on a ‘needs’ basis – for example, parents can only ever access the records for their child, no-one else’s.
