What is Montessori?

Montessori is a remarkably dynamic approach to education that is more than 100 years old! It is practised in 7000+ schools around the world and 700+ in the UK. It combines a philosophy of freedom and self-development with a practical hands-on approach to learning. The starting point is a deep respect for children as unique individuals, born as intelligent creatures with different styles of learning.

Montessori schools are warm and supportive communities of children, teachers and parents that share a deep concern for children’s social and emotional development.

Children are consciously taught to be kind and peaceful as they play and learn with and alongside others of different ages and abilities.

What can Montessori education do for my child?

The Montessori prepared environment supports children’s independent learning. Montessori teachers encourage the children towards ownership and responsibility for their own learning, while guiding them towards the next level of achievement. We encourage children to choose their own activities as we believe this aids in the motivation to become self learners.

Children in a Montessori school learn how to play in a calm and nurturing environment and we encourage children to be courteous and respectful to each other while subliminally learning through their own actions. Children are encouraged to use their resources to the full to become independent self motivated learners who can work and play harmoniously with their peers and learn from each other.

The result is children who develop concentration, confidence, self discipline and a love of learning. Studies also show children receiving a Montessori early year’s education often do better academically.

How can I find out more?
By far the best way is to come and see for yourself - so please do get in touch and we'll be delighted to arrange a visit for you (with your child).
